Strategic Visioning and Planning

Your Organization's Journey to the Future
Developing a Strategic Plan for Your Organization with Human Resource Innovations

Purpose of the Strategic Visioning Process:
Involve Your Organization's stakeholders in creating a strategic plan for a successful, sustainable future by:

  • Studying the historical lessons and trends in Your Organization's past

  • Taking a snapshot of its current environment, dilemmas and competing forces

  • Envisioning where the organization wants to be in 3-5 years

  • Creating a roadmap and action plans for getting there

Stage 1. Preparing for the Journey
Encourages key stakeholders to create a clear process plan to engage the organization in taking this special journey

Stage 2. Exploring and Learning
Moves back into history, engaging participants by exploring past events, core values, competencies, successes and learnings

Stage 3. Finding Common Ground
Creates a solid platform of information, strategic questions, and agreements that can serve as a springboard for visioning.

Stage 4. Opening to a Vision
Moves into the future and encourages participants to leave evaluation behind, explore real aspirations and create powerful, vivid vision images.

Stage 5. Creating Strategies
Integrates the work of the prior stages and links the learning from the past with the vision by articulating a high-level path forward

Stage 6. Evolving Systems
Involves as many people as possible in refining the vision and strategies and integrating the vision graphics to show progress. Game Plans created by the Strategic Visioning Team will provide objectives, success factors, timelines and accountabilities.

Stage 7. Living Your Vision in Action

The ultimate success of a Strategic Visioning Process is the extent to which leadership and key stakeholders actually live the vision day-to-day. Action Teams and Committees will be equipped with tools and processes for taking the vision into action. Roles and goals will be clarified so that all stakeholders can participate and contribute fully to the ongoing success of Your Organization.

Steps in the Strategic Visioning Process

1. Planning meetings with Strategic Planning Design Team (DT) to prepare and schedule the Strategic Visioning Process

2. Stakeholders Summit Preparation
Members of the Design Team (DT) and key staff gather data around key metrics that define You Organization's operational purpose. Facilitator's role is to structure this pre-planning effort to gain the information necessary to move to next stages

3. Stakeholders' Summit
Special 3 or 4 hour event that would bring as many stakeholders as possible together to start the Strategic Visioning process. Purpose of this event would be to introduce the Strategic Visioning Process and outcomes sought; take stakeholders to "3000 feet up" to gain perspective of the economic, social and competitive landscape; provide opportunity for input and involvement; generate "strategic questions" that will be taken to the Strategic Visioning "Advance".

Activities would include:

  • Introduce Strategic Planning Process overview

  • Provide a Graphic History for gathering lessons from the past & acknowledging accomplishments

  • Create a "Context Map" for identifying

  • Trends

  • Governmental/Political Factors

  • Economic Climate

  • Customer Needs

  • Generate strategic questions

  • SPOT analysis

4. Preparation for the Strategic Planning "Advance"
Design Team takes the information generated at the Stakeholders' Summit and disseminate to the Strategic Planning Team along with the expectations and logistics of the "Advance." Design Team designs the "Advance" as well as the post-Advance activities that will continue the Strategic Plan Implementation

5. Strategic Planning "Advance" - Strategic Planning Team

2-day intensive that will result in:

  • Vision of the Future of Your Organization

  • 4 - 5 Bold Strategic Steps

  • Aligned Vision, Mission, Values

  • SPOT analysis

  • Leadership and organizational requirements

  • Game Plans & Next Steps

6. Game Plan Design and Implementation
The Game Plans that are developed during the Advance require research and further development, including implementation strategies. The Design Team will meet to review the post-Advance plans and assure their implementation

7. Living the Vision - Leadership and Team Development
It's likely that there will be needs identified regarding Leadership and Team development for the board and/or staff for the ongoing success of the organization. Human Resource Innovations will help you with customized programs that develop team and leadership skills at all levels of the organization so that the strategic plan is efficiently implemented for sustainable success.
