The Strategic Visioning Process – developed by Grove Consultants International, is a conceptual tool for engaging an entire organization in combining its best hindsight and foresight in aligned action.  It complements the analytical approaches of traditional planning with a holistic integration of the intuitive, emotional, intellectual, and physical sensibilities of leaders and other stakeholders.  This integration is achieved by blending four change management technologies: 

  1. Strategic Planning –– a discipline for analyzing past and current competitive environments, identifying organizational capabilities, weaknesses, and key opportunities, clarifying missions an strategic options, and aligning management to these strategies through action plans focused on priority objectives.
     

  2. Visioning –– a process of imagining desirable futures that may represent quantum changes from the past, developing compelling imagery and stories about the nature and benefits of this future, and working backwards to understand the journey that could carry people to this vision.
     

  3. Large Scale Change Processes –– a technology for involving large numbers of people in meetings and task teams that create a shared base of assumptions and understandings about the need to change, alternatives available, and ideas for moving forward.
     

  4. Graphic Facilitation –- a discipline using very large working displays to reflect the patterns in people’s thinking, imagery and metaphors in structured templates matched to whatever outcomes are sought by the groups involved.  These big picture displays uniquely stimulate the intuitions, feelings, and systems thinking of groups.
